The Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong province has initiated the program application for Guangdong provincial key laboratory 2024. Details of application requirements are as follows:

1. Categories

The program sets two subtypes with key laboratories for basic research and key laboratories for technical research.

2. Funding Fiels

Laboratories for basic research:

New generation communication networks, future computing, green and low-carbon energy, intersection of mathematics and physics, and digital economy.

Laboratories for technical research:

New energy vehicles, basic software, semiconductors and integrated circuits, new energy storage, digital creativity, precision instruments and equipment, and marine economy.

3. Duration and Funding Amount

1) 3 years, starts on January 1, 2024.

2) Funds for laboratories of basic research and technical research are 3 million yuan and 1 million yuan respectively.

4. Application Requirements

1) The laboratory director shall meet one of the following conditions:

Laboratories for basic research:

a. Host a national natural science foundation project (including sub-projects) with a funding amount of 3 million yuan or more;

b. Host 1 provincial natural science foundation outstanding youth project;

c. As the first completer to win the first prize of national or provincial science and technology award or above.

※ The above three categories of projects are all approved (awarded) between 2020 and 2022.

Laboratories for technical research:

a. Host a major national science and technology project (including sub-topics) or a national key research and development plan project (including sub-topics) with a funding amount of 2 million yuan or more;

b. Host a provincial science and technology plan project (including sub-projects) with a funding amount of 4 million yuan or more;

c. Receive national or provincial science and technology awards as the first completer;

※ The above three categories of projects are all approved (awarded) between 2020 and 2022.

d. Head of Guangdong province high level university key discipline construction.

2) Research team:

Laboratories for basic research:

No less than 30 fixed researchers. From 2020 to 2022, the team shall undertake no less than 10 scientific research projects at the provincial level or above, with a total project amount of 10 million yuan or more (excluding supporting funds), and more than 80 papers included in SCI/ESCI/EI/PubMed and other databases.

Laboratories for technical research:

No less than 30 fixed researchers. From 2020 to 2022, the team shall undertake no less than 8 scientific research projects at the provincial level or above, with a total project amount of 8 million yuan or more (excluding supporting funds), and participate in the authorization of 30 or more invention patents as an inventor.

3) Scientific research facilities:

Relatively concentrated and moderate-scale experimental rooms and test sites, advanced scientific research instruments and equipment, good technical support conditions and academic activity environment.

4) Past achievements:

Three representative achievements obtained between 2020 and 2022 shall be provided.

5) Open cooperation:

Laboratory instruments and equipment shall provide open services. Laboratories should have substantial domestic and foreign academic exchanges and cooperation. Laboratories for technical research require sound industry-university-research cooperation mechanisms.

5. Procedure of Application

Applicants shall fill out application forms in Chinese and upload supplementary documents online via the application system (http://pro.gdstc.gd.gov.cn/) by 17:00 on Oct. 13, 2023, without submitting any hard copies.

 6. Other Requirements

1) The laboratory should be named Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of XXX (2024).

2) The laboratory director must work full-time in the laboratory, and the fixed members must not overlap with the existing fixed personnel of the national key laboratory, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao joint laboratory and provincial key laboratory.

3) Only 1 application per category can be submitted.
