The Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong province has initiated the program application for Guangdong-Shenzhen joint research fund 2023. Details of application requirements are as follows:

1. Categories

The program set three subtypes with Young Scientists Fund, Key Project and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Research Team Project.

Young Scientists Fund

a. Applicants shall meet the following qualifications:

(1) independently undertake research project;

(2) be younger than 35 (born on or after January 1,1988).Female applicants should be younger than 38 (born on or after January 1, 1985);

(3) haven’t been granted by national or provincial research projects as PI;

(4) have obtained PhD degree or senior academic title.

b. The duration is three years with the funding intensity 0.1 million yuan per project;

Key Project

a. Applicants shall meet the following qualifications:

(1)Have obtained a PhD degree or senior academic title;

(2)Have obtained national, Guangdong provincial or Shenzhen key research projects as PI.

b. The duration is three years with the funding intensity 1 million yuan per project.

Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Research Team Project

a. Applicants shall conduct high-quality collaborative research with researchers from research institutes/universities in Hong Kong or Macao;

b. Applicants shall have experience of undertaking national or Guangdong provincial research projects as PI;

c. No more than 20 total team members(including no more than 5 core team members and at least one researcher from research institutes/ universities in Hong Kong or Macao). Meanwhile, all core team members shall have obtained PhD degree or senior academic title;

d. Graduate students and in-site post-doctoral researchers are not eligible to apply for this program as core team members ;

e. The duration is four years with the funding intensity 2 million yuan per project;

2. Requirements

a. Application limit

(1) Each applicant shall submit one project of Guangdong joint research fund at most in the same year;

(2) Applicants shall only submit no more than two applications for provincial research projects in the same year;

(3) The total number of Guangdong provincial research projects a researcher undertakes as the PI should not exceed three;

(4) The total number of Guangdong natural science fund projects a researcher undertakes as the PI should not exceed two;

(5) Only one Guangdong natural science fund project will be approved for one applicant in the same year.

(6) Grantees of the Guangdong natural science fund 2023?are not allowed to apply for Guangdong-Shenzhen joint research fund 2023;?

(7) Grantees of the Guangdong major research program, key area R&D program, and key project, research team project, major basic research fostering project of Guangdong natural science fund are not allowed to apply for Guangdong-Shenzhen joint research fund 2023.

b. Collaborative research requirements

(1) The collaborative institutions involved shall not exceed 2 in number(no more than 4 for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Research Team Project);

(2) If main participants include researchers from other domestic institutions, a collaboration agreement which contains fund allocation, division of labor, ownership of intellectual property and other relevant contents shall be signed and sealed before submission online;

(3) For overseas participants, he or she shall upload the “Informed Consent Letter” (template can be downloaded from application system and need to be signed by applicant) to the application system.

c. Other requirements

(1) The project start time in the application form should be?1 November, 202.

(2) If the research content involves research ethics or science security, compliance documents shall be provided as attachments.

(3) Any requirements of relevant scientific research reviews, please refer to the CUHK(SZ)’s research review process of each committee as attached (Annex 5) and send the required materials and forms to each committee’s email by Sep. 8, 2023?for assessment.

3. Procedure of application

Applicants shall fill out application forms in Chinese and upload supplementary documents(please refer Annex 4-attachments list) online via the application system (?http://pro.gdstc.gd.gov.cn/?)?on or after Aug. 15, 2023, without submitting any hard copies.
