CUHK-Shenzhen Holds the Fifth and Sixth Honorary Fellowships Presentation Ceremony
On May?17, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) held its Fifth and Sixth Honorary Fellowship Presentation Ceremony, conferring honorary fellowship upon distinguished individuals — Dr. Chan Wai-man, Ms. Ki?Man-fung, Mr. Lee Hon-cheung, Professor Li Qingquan, Mr. Ren Guolong, Mr. Yuen Kin Chung, Dr. Wu Yihuan and Dr. Sin Nga-yan (listed in alphabetical order of surnames in Chinese pinyin) — in recognition of their outstanding contributions to their professional fields, ?public service,?educational development and the growth of the University.
Since its founding, CUHK-Shenzhen has grown into a vibrant international research university with the strong support and long-term engagement of individuals and organizations from across society. To date, the University has conferred Honorary Fellowships upon 28 distinguished individuals who have made enduring contributions to the University’s development. Some have continuously supported the advancement of higher education in Shenzhen throughout the University’s founding and major stages of development; some have made significant contributions to higher education reform, the internationalization of higher education and the development of research universities in China; others have long supported youth development, cultural inheritance and philanthropy through scholarships and educational initiatives. Many have also helped shape the University’s governance system and institutional development through their active participation and leadership. Though coming from diverse backgrounds, all Honorary Fellows share a common commitment to education and social progress, and have become an indispensable force in the University’s development.
The ceremony was hosted by Professor Wang Cong, Associate Vice President of CUHK-Shenzhen. Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Chairman of the Governing Board of CUHK-Shenzhen and Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, presented commemorative plaques to the Honorary Fellows.
Address by President, Professor Xu Yangsheng
In his address, Professor Xu Yangsheng, President of CUHK-Shenzhen, extended his highest respect and sincere congratulations to the Honorary Fellows on behalf of the University, and expressed gratitude to all sectors of society for their longstanding support of the University’s development. Professor Xu noted that the title “Fellow” signifies not only an honor recipient, but also a companion, supporter and long-term partner of the University. The Honorary Fellowship, he said, is conferred not only in recognition of the recipients’ distinguished achievements in their respective fields, but also because they share the University’s educational vision, care deeply about its development, and have accompanied its growth with wisdom, foresight and dedication. Although they come from different sectors, they all embody a shared commitment to serving society, supporting education and fostering youth development.
Address by Mr. Yuen Kin Chung, Honorary Fellow representative
Delivering remarks as the representative of Honorary Fellows, Mr. Yuen Kin Chung reflected on his longstanding connection with the University. He said he felt deeply honored to receive the Honorary Fellowship from CUHK-Shenzhen and regarded it as both a recognition and a responsibility. The honor, he noted, recognizes not only individual professional achievements and social contributions, but also reflects the University’s appreciation for the longstanding support and shared development efforts of all sectors of society.
Mr. Yuen also remarked that The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and CUHK-Shenzhen share the same roots and culture, while the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has created broad opportunities for collaboration between the two campus. Looking ahead, he expressed hope that CUHK and CUHK-Shenzhen?would further deepen cooperation in?academic exchange, research and talent development, and work together to build a globally oriented hub for international education rooted in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Honorary Fellowship is a lifelong honor conferred by CUHK-Shenzhen upon distinguished individuals. Through this recognition, the University aims to bring together social forces that care about and support the development of higher education, and to work collectively toward advancing talent cultivation, academic innovation and social progress.
