The Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province has initiated the application for Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory 2025. Details of application requirements are as follows:

1. Categories

The program sets two subtypes with key laboratories of basic research and laboratories of technical research.

2. Duration and Funding Amount

2.1 3 years, from 2025.1.1 to 2027.12.31.

2.2 Funds for laboratories of basic research and technical research are 3 million yuan and 1 million yuan respectively.

3. Application Requirements

3.1 Laboratories of basic research

3.1.1 Supporting fields: Artificial intelligence, green and low carbon energy, mathematics, science and frontier crossing, new generation information technology, and new materials.

3.1.2 The laboratory director shall meet one of the following conditions:

A. Host a National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars or Excellent Young Scientists Fund or Guangdong Natural Science Foundation-Distinguished Young Scholars Fund;

B. Host a NSFC program (including sub-program) with a funding amount of no less than 2 million yuan since 2021;

C. As the first completer to win the first prize of national or provincial science and technology award or above since 2021;

D. Key discipline construction leader of Guangdong provincial high-level university.

3.1.3 Research team: No less than 30 fixed researchers. The team shall undertake no less than 10 scientific research projects at the provincial level or above, with a total project amount of no less than 10 million yuan (excluding supporting funds), and more than 80 papers published in SCI.

3.1.4 Scientific research facilities: Relatively concentrated and moderate-scale experimental rooms and test sites, advanced scientific research instruments and equipment.

3.1.5 Past achievements: Three representative achievements obtained since 2021 shall be provided.

3.1.6 Open cooperation: Instruments and equipment shall provide open services. Laboratories should have substantial domestic and foreign academic exchanges and cooperation, and sound industry-university-research cooperation mechanisms.

3.2 Laboratories of technical research

3.2.1 Supporting fields: Industrial software, semiconductors and integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, digital creativity, high-end research instruments, low altitude economy.

3.2.2 The laboratory director shall meet one of the following conditions:

A. Host a major national science and technology program (including sub-program) or a national key research and development plan program (including sub-topics) with a funding amount of no less than 2 million yuan since 2021;

B. Host a national or provincial science and technology plan project (including sub-program) with a funding amount of no less than 4 million yuan since 2021;

C. Win a national or provincial science and technology awards as the first completer since 2021;

D. Key discipline construction leader of Guangdong provincial high-level university.

3.2.3 Research team: No less than 30 fixed researchers. The team shall undertake no less than 8 scientific research projects at the provincial level or above, with a total project amount of no less than 8 million yuan (excluding supporting funds), and participate in the authorization of no less than 30 invention patents as an inventor.

3.2.4 Scientific research facilities: Relatively concentrated and moderate-scale experimental rooms and test sites, advanced scientific research instruments and equipment.

3.2.5 Past achievements: Three representative achievements obtained since 2021 shall be provided.

3.2.6 Open cooperation: Instruments and equipment shall provide open services. Laboratories should have substantial domestic and foreign academic exchanges and cooperation, and sound industry-university-research cooperation mechanisms.

4. Other Requirements

4.1 The laboratory should be named “Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of XXX (2025)”.

4.2 Only 1 application per category can be submitted.

5. Procedure of Application

5.1 Collect declaration intention

Applicants who are interested in declaring Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory shall feedback the declaration intention form (refer to Annexes 1/2) by 15:00 on Oct. 25, 2024 to luoyan@cuhk.edu.cn. RAO will organize the intramural selection according to the feedback, and the notification will be issued separately.

5.2 Formal declaration

Applicants shall fill out application forms in Chinese and upload supplementary documents online via the application system (http://pro.gdstc.gd.gov.cn/) by 17:00 on Nov. 18, 2024, without submitting any hard copies.
