Ren Qilong is a Professor of Zhejiang University and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Academician Ren is the Director of the Key Laboratory of Biomass Chemical Engineering of Ministry of Education, Dean of the Zhejiang University Industrial Technology Research Institute and the Quzhou Research Institute of Zhejiang University. He serves as a Member of the Discipline Review Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, Vice President of the Chinese Industry and Engineering Society of China, President of the Zhejiang Provincial Chemical Industry and Engineering Society, and President of the Supercritical Fluid Technology Committee of the Chinese Industry and Engineering Society of China.

Professor Ren works on applied basic research and engineering practice in the field of chemical separation, and has established molecular identification and separation engineering technology for the separation of bio-based raw materials with extremely complex components and similar molecules, which has enabled the efficient manufacture of several high-end chemical and pharmaceutical products and generated significant economic and social benefits. He has published over 200 papers in SCI/EI and holds more than 90 authorized patents. As the first inventor, he was awarded the second prize of National Technology Invention Award twice and the first prize of Provincial Science and Technology Award twice.

Abstract

The separation process determines the quality of chemical products and is the most energy-, investment-, and cost-intensive part in the chemical industry. The separation of congeners, isomers, and other structurally similar substances is extremely important for industries such as biomedicine and new materials, but faces great challenges. This presentation will introduce the molecular identification and separation techniques and the precise separation and engineering applications of some structurally similar substances.
