As the fifth concert of the "Spring Blossoms" Music Festival, the Chinese Orchestra of CUHK-Shenzhen will bring traditional music to life right here on campus. Joined by special guest performers, the orchestra will present a wonderful collaboration showcasing the vibrant, moving charm of traditional Chinese music this spring.

The Chinese Orchestra of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen
The Chinese Orchestra of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was established in August 2018. It gathers over 30 Chinese music lovers in the University and becomes fully orchestrated with string, plucked, woodwind, and percussion sections, participating in numerous activities both on and off campus.
/Music Performance and Promotion/ To continuously popularize, disseminate, and spread the national music, the Chinese Orchestra inherits classical Chinese music and fosters the innovative development of Chinese traditional culture. They showcase cultural confidence and have staged many works in various styles, including?Rising Higher Step by Step, Dance of the Yao People, The Legend of the Condor Heroes, Dance of Picking Tea, Drought Thunder, Rambling around the Flower Stream, Blue and White Porcelain, Fade Away, Youthful Longing, Colorful Caves, To Youth, A Dream of Red Mansions, etc.?These songs bring audience the unique expressiveness of different Chinese instruments and boundless charm of Chinese music. Among them, the folk chamber music version of Rambling around the Flower Stream was premiered at CUHK-Shenzhen 2021 Concert. The Chinese Orchestra showed its enthusiastic spirit and exceptional skills, receiving unanimous praise.
/Deep Cooperation Across Multiple Platforms/ In 2024, the Chinese Orchestra has held“Melodies in the Joyful Spring - Special Concert”, which was the first off-campus public charity performance by them In the concert, they coopertated with Macao Chinese Orchestra, Shenzhen Yulong School, and the Chinese Orchestra of Shenzhen Yantian Foreign Language Primary School. The Chinese Orchestra has also held 2022 CUHK-Shenzhen Chinese Orchestra Concert of Chinese Music, participated in the Annual Concert of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen held in Shenzhen Concert Hall many times. It has also participated in performances at the 2021 CUHK-Shenzhen?“Music in the Cloud”?Concert, bringing diverse Chinese music performances to the public.
In future artistic practices, the Chinese Orchestra will continue to enhance members’?musical literacy and performance skills, broaden their horizons, and accumulate experience, enriching campus culture and artistic atmosphere. They aim to promote Chinese music continuously, allowing more people to experience its unique charm.

Chinese Orchestra Conductor | Michael WANG

Michael WANG, a young conductor, is a graduate of Xi’an Conservatory of Music and currently the Resident Conductor of the Chinese Orchestra of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, the Guest Conductor for Shanxi National Orchestra, the Music Director and Principal Conductor of Shenzhen Poly Youth Chinese Orchestra, and the Music Director and Resident Conductor of Shenzhen Bow Dance and String Song Huqin Chamber Orchestra. He was an official participant in the first Conducting Master Class of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, where he received guidance from the orchestra's Artistic Director and Lifelong Conductor, Prof. YAN Huichang.
In 2015, he was awarded the Most Popular Conductor Award for Chinese Orchestras at the Toronto Conducting Competition.
In 2016, he collaborated with renowned wind player Mr. GUO Yazhi in Edmonton to perform Song of the Phoenix.
In 2019, he served as the conductor of the Toronto Joint Chinese Orchestra at the concert celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of Macau's return to China.
In 2020, under the guidance of renowned conductor Mr. ZHANG Lie, WANG served as the rehearsal conductor for the concert commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.
In 2021, he was the rehearsal conductor for The Dream of the Red?Chamber concert.
In 2022, WANG collaborated with the Zhuhai National Orchestra and the Shaanxi Broadcasting National Traditional Orchestra to conduct the Moon Festival Concert of National Music in Shenzhen Concert Hall.
In 2024, WANG conducted the Chinese Orchestra of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, in a special concert at Longgang Cultural Centre, in collaboration with the Macau Chinese Orchestra.

Guest Performers
CHEN?Pinhao (Hong Kong, China)

CHEN?Pinhao currently studies at the Affiliated School of JNU for Hong Kong & Macao Students-Guangzhou. He has been learning percussion since childhood, with his early training under young percussionist HE?Jiali. He is currently studying under YIN?Fei, a renowned percussionist, educator, Associate Professor, and Master's Supervisor at the Central Conservatory of Music. He has also received careful guidance from distinguished masters including LI?Zhengui, CHEN?Zuohui, SU?Guangzhong, and MA?Li.
With fruitful achievements in his artistic practice, he won the Second Prize in the Traditional Music Ensemble category at the 7th and 8th National Art Exhibition for Primary and Secondary School Students, and the First Prize in the same category at the Art Exhibition for Primary and Secondary School Students?in Guangdong. From 2022 to 2025, he won Gold Awards for four consecutive years in both solo and ensemble categories at the Guangdong National Instrumental Music Competition. He possesses rich stage experience and a steady, solid performing style.

YANG?Xintong

YANG?Xintong is a high school senior majoring in Chinese Percussion at the Affiliated High School of Xinghai Conservatory of Music, studying under Mr. HAO?Bo, Deputy Director of the Traditional Chinese Music Department.
She won the Gold Award in the Traditional Percussion Professional Junior High School Category at the 2023 PAS Greater Bay Area Youth Percussion Festival, the Bronze Award in the Traditional Percussion Professional Junior High School Category at the 7th PAS Percussion Arts Week Exhibition Competition, and the First Prize in the Chinese Percussion Professional Category at the 8th Shenzhen Percussion Arts Festival. In 2024, she was selected for the 8th National Youth Traditional Instrumental Music Education and Teaching Achievements Exhibition.

Host | JIANG Jin

JIANG Jin is a master’s student in Drama, Film and Television at Nanchang University, focusing on Broadcasting and Presenting. She currently interns with the Art Groups of the UAC at CUHK-Shenzhen. She holds the Radio and TV Announcer and Host Qualification Certificate (Grade A) and the Professional Certificate for Ceremony Hosts. She was invited to perform at Henan Satellite TV’s July 1st Gala, reciting “The Internationale”, “The People Are the Country”, and “Ode to China” alongside renowned hosts HAI Xia and XU Tao. She has also worked as an on-camera reporter and newscaster for a local TV station, and has hosted many campus and public events. Her awards include the National First Prize in the College Student Reader category of the 27th National University Student New Media Creativity Competition, the Hundred-Likes Award in the “National Youth Reading Party History” Activity, and the Excellence Award in the First National Poetry Recitation Competition of “Voices of a Prosperous China”.

The “Spring Blossoms” Music Festival at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is thoughtfully curated by the University Arts Centre, bringing together artistic forces from both China and abroad. The festival features a diverse range of performances, including choir, a cappella, orchestral, chamber music, percussion, and ethnic music. Throughout the festival, there will also be music lectures, academic communication, artistic coaching, and charity performances. The aim of the festival is to integrate existing campus music projects and external music resources, promote cross-disciplinary communication and academic guidance, and to create an open, shared, and global-minded platform for artistic communication. Take music as a bridge to connect the world and inspire the soul.
