As the delicacy of strings and the clarity of winds softly blend with the warmth of the season, the Chamber Group of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen takes instruments as its vessel and melodies as its sail, setting off on an immersive auditory journey across the campus.

The CUHK-Shenzhen Chamber Group

The CUHK-Shenzhen Chamber Group was originally formed as a student interest group under the CUHK-Shenzhen Orchestra in 2016 and officially established in 2021. It is a vibrant and creative ensemble made up of talented instrumentalists from the university with a shared passion for music. Dedicated to pushing boundaries of music, the group explores a wide range of chamber music, including saxophone quartets, woodwind and brass ensembles, classical guitar, accordion, along with traditional string quartets. Today, CUHK-Shenzhen Chamber Group has grown into one of the most recognized university-level ensembles, offering diverse and enriching musical experiences for the music enthusiasts.?
CUHK-Shenzhen Chamber Group was mentored by prominent musicians from Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, such as Associate Principal Cheng Xianwei, Principal Cellist Wu Zhen, and Lesya Kot, Principal of the Second Violin Section. The current instructor is Wayne WANG, a young conductor. The group’s repertoire spans from classical masterpieces like Mozart’sPiano Concerto No. 21?and?Serenade in G Major, Beethoven’s?Piano Concerto No. 5, to modern pieces, such as Joe Hisaishi’s?Castle in the Sky?and?Summer(from?Kikujiro).
In 2023, the group premiered a series of works specially composed by young composer Zhang Tianyang, including a saxophone quartet and jazz drum version of?Fly Me to the Moon?at Shenzhen Concert Hall. In May 2023, it performed the "Voices of Chamber Music" Principal Quintet Concert at the Bay Opera of Shenzhen, showcasing works of Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven, conducted by conductor and pianist Jacky Wong.
CUHK-Shenzhen Chamber Group is more than a students’?art group, but a testament to CUHK-Shenzhen’s whole-person education philosophy. It nurtures members’?musical aesthetic and provides a platform to showcase their talents. Through its ongoing dedication to music, the group will continue to offer unforgettable experiences and personal growth for its members.

Host|YANG Xuedan

YANG Xuedan, a year-1 undergraduate student at the School of Humanities and Social Science, CUHK-Shenzhen, is a member of Muse College.
She has hosted the China-US "Bond with Kuliang" Cultural Exchange Event and served as the MC for the dinner reception at the Embassy during the Washington State High School Delegation's visit to China. ?After joining the University, she has hosted numerous events, including the Muse College Orientation Ceremony, the Muse College High Table Dinner, the "Equate Salon" lecture series, the Cyber Glow Night Run, and the Tencent OpenClaw Training Camp.
Beyond hosting, she has participated in the “Life Museum” series, conducting an exclusive interview with the renowned philosopher Mr. Zhou Guoping, and delivered a speech on the TEDx CUHK-Shenzhen stage, accumulating rich experience in public speaking.

The “Spring Blossoms” Music Festival at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is thoughtfully curated by the University Arts Centre, bringing together artistic forces from both China and abroad. The festival features a diverse range of performances, including choir, a cappella, orchestral, chamber music, percussion, and ethnic music. Throughout the festival, there will also be music lectures, academic communication, artistic coaching, and charity performances. The aim of the festival is to integrate existing campus music projects and external music resources, promote cross-disciplinary communication and academic guidance, and to create an open, shared, and global-minded platform for artistic communication. Take music as a bridge to connect the world and inspire the soul.
