MAO Jian

Born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, MAO Jian holds a Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Languages and a Master’s degree in Chinese Literature from East China Normal University. She earned her Ph.D. from the Division of Humanities at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Currently, she is a Professor?at East China Normal University, a renowned writer, and?Vice?President?of the Shanghai Film Critics Association. MAO Jian focuses on researching contemporary Chinese film, television, and urban culture, and she has columns in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Singapore. Her notable works include?Very Crime, Very Beauty: MAO Jian’s Film Notes, When the World Turns Right, Messy, These Years,?Exception, There’s a Tiger in the Bathroom, We Don’t Understand Movies, and?Short Nights, Long Dreams.
