On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of our university’s founding and the 5th anniversary of the University Arts Centre, we welcome the biennial campus art and cultural event - the 4th Culture & Arts Festival "CATS" (Culture Arts Technology & Science). This season's activities have officially kicked off on October 12. It encompasses visual art and performing art. Taking art as a bridge on campus, it connects with everyone.

On October 26th, pianist Poon Kiu Tung and violinist Patrick YIM will present the "Crossover of Technology & Tradition: A Piano-Violin Concert". As part of the ongoing Culture & Arts Festival series of events, this concert aligns with the theme "CATS" (Culture Arts Technology & Science), aiming to showcase the fusion of music and technology and lead the audience to experience how modern technology injects new vitality into traditional art.
The performance will feature the Yamaha Disklavier? Acoustic Smart Piano, which not only automatically plays pre-recorded pieces but also interacts with the performer in real-time, highlighting the integration of technology and tradition and demonstrating the application of modern technology in musical creation. We look forward to sharing with you this epoch-spanning musical feast!

Artists Introduction
?
POON Kiu Tung (Piano)
Young Steinway Artist Kiu Tung Poon appeared as recitalist and collaborative pianist on concert stages worldwide. International music festival appearances include Tanglewood and Aspen in the US, Konzerthaus in Austria, St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London, and Great Wall in Beijing. Her rendition on Chinese and American contemporary compositions as well as Ravel's piano works was described as "lyrical and emotionally nuanced... displayed lyricism and virtuosity" (Woodstock Times). Her world première of Mark Morris/Samuel Barber’s Excursions with Mark Morris Dance Group in the Tanglewood Music Festival received enthusiastic review on The New York Times and Boston Phoenix. Her latest Naxos release on violin and piano works by American composers was noted as "lively and authoritative" (American Record Guide), "effective presence (Strad), "fresh, adventurous, and beguiling", and "beautifully crafted and extremely sensitive" (Fanfare). Her debut solo album on Contemporary Chinese composers will be released by Naxos on their specialised piano label Grand Piano. Graduated from the Indiana University Bloomington and the University of Texas at Austin with a DMA in Piano Performance, she currently teaches at her alma mater The Chinese University of Hong Kong as a lecturer in performance and serves as the performance stream coordinator in the Department of Music. Patrick?YIM (Violin)
Praised for his “deeply expressive, finely nuanced playing” (The Strad Magazine), “dazzling technique and passionate interpretations” (The Whole Note), and “vivid imagination” (Fanfare), Honolulu-born violinist Patrick Yim made his solo debut with the Honolulu Symphony, and has performed chamber music with Juilliard, Emerson, St. Lawrence, Pacifica, and Ying Quartet members, and musicians from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Cleveland Orchestra, and New York Philharmonic. He performed with the Cleveland Orchestra on tour in the USA and Europe, and at Carnegie Hall with the Emerson Quartet violinists. His recordings, including numerous world premieres, have been published by Albany, Naxos, Navona, Ravello, and Acis. A strong advocate of contemporary compositions, Yim has commissioned more than 50 works to date, including a substantial body of work for violin with non-Western instruments. In 2024, Yim performed the world premiere of Bamboo Grove, a new unaccompanied violin work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Zhou Long commissioned for him by the University of Notre Dame, at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center. New Waves, which includes premiere recordings of works by Chen Yi, Zhou Long, and Qu Xiao-song, was published by Albany Records on December 23, 2023. He earned his BM and MM from the Cleveland Institute of Music and his DMA from Stony Brook University. His principal teachers were Philip Setzer, William Preucil, David Updegraff, Jennifer Frautschi, and Hagai Shaham. He previously taught at CIM, Hong Kong Baptist University, Interlochen, and Stony Brook. Yim is Assistant Professor of Violin in the Department of Music, Faculty Fellow at the Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies, and Faculty Fellow at the Nanovic Institute for European Studies, University of Notre Dame.
