The NSFC has initiated application for the 14th Five-year Plan's NSFC Major Program(the third batch). Details of requirements are as follows:

1. Funding fields

Including Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, Engineering and Materials Sciences, Information Sciences, Management Sciences, Medical Sciences and Interdisciplinary Science.

※ Please refer Annex 1-Guide for specific content of the above areas.

2. Eligibility of applicants (including applicants of subtasks)

A. Applicants shall meet the following qualifications:

(1) With the experience of undertaking basic research projects;

?(2) Have senior academic title.

B. Some major projects have special requirements on qualifications, please read to?Annex 1-Guide?first before application.

?

3. Funding amount and duration

The duration is five years (the start time should be 1 Jan. 2024 and finish time should be 31 Dec. 2028) , please refer to?Annex 1?for the funding intensity.

?

4. Procedure of application

? ??Online application

Applicants (including project and subtasks) shall fill out application forms in Chinese online via the application system (https://isisn.nsfc.gov.cn/) . Please refer to Annex 1 for the specific requirements.

※ For applicants who have no application account, please send your name, academic title, ID type, ID No., email address, telephone number, School to tanyihong@cuhk.edu.cn by Aug. 10, 2023 to open account.

? ??Paperless submission

In the stage of submission, applicants shall only submit the online application, without submitting any hard copies.

※ The applicants of project and subtasks shall submit application forms online through their own host institutions respectively, and the subtasks’ application forms shall be submitted before the project submission.

?

5. Other requirements

A. This program is subject to the total number limit;

B. Applicants(excluding main participates) shall? only? apply? for? one? type? of? programs? once? in? a? year;

C. Applicants? shall? not? apply? for? the? Major Programs? if? they received? funding? for? Major? Program as the PI or subtasks’ PI in the previous year;

D. Each project shall set up no more than 5 subtasks based on objectives, and the project applicant shall be the PI for one of the subtasks (as per?Appendix 1-Guide).

E. The collaborative institutions involved for each subtask shall not exceed 2 in number. Meanwhile, the whole collaborative institutions involved for the project shall not exceed 4.

F. If the project involves ethics or biosafety issues, applicant shall submit approval documents from the appropriate committees. Any requirements of relevant scientific research reviews, please refer to the CUHKSZ’s research review process of each Committee as attached (Annex 2) and send the required materials and forms to each committee’s email address by?Aug. 23, 2023?for assessment.

6. Deadline

(1)? Applicants shall submit application forms and upload required supplementary documents online?by 12:00 on Aug. 28, 2023, the RAO will review and feedback;

(2) ?Applicants shall submit application forms (final version)?online by?12:00 on Aug. 30, 2023, without submitting any hard copies.
