Notification of application for Guangdong natural science foundation 2021
The Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong province has initiated the program application for Guangdong natural science foundation 2021. Details of application requirements are as follows:

1. Categories
The program set two subtypes with General? Program and Distinguished Young Scholars Fund.
General Program
a. Applicants shall meet the following qualifications:
(1) With the experience of undertaking (including as main participant) basic? research? projects? or? doing? basic research;
(2) The total number of NSFC program a researcher undertakes as PI shall not exceed two;
(3) Grantees of the Guangdong major research program, key area R&D program, and key project, research team project, distinguished young scholars fund ,major fostered project of Guangdong natural science foundation are not allowed to apply for Guangdong natural science foundation 2021.
(4) In-site post-doctoral researchers are eligible to apply for this program when he or she has obtained the consent of instructor.
b. The duration is three years with the funding intensity 0.1 million yuan per project;

※Due to the limitation of application quota, only recommended projects which reviewed and selected by the university can be allowed to submit.

Distinguished Young Scholars Fund
a. Independently undertake research project;
b. Applicants shall meet the following qualifications:
(1) Be younger than 40 (born on or after January 1,1981);
(2) Have obtained PhD degree or senior academic title;
(3) Grantees (including main participants) of national or Guangdong provincial research projects.
c. The duration is four years with the funding intensity 1 million yuan per project;
d. In-site post-doctoral researchers are not eligible to apply for this program;

2. Requirements
a. Application limit
(1) Shall submit one project at most in the same year for each applicant;
(2) The total number of Guangdong provincial research projects a researcher undertakes as the PI should not exceed three;
(3) The total number of projects of Guangdong natural science foundation(including Guangdong joint research fund) a researcher undertakes as the PI should not exceed two;
(4) Applicant can receive the funding of Guangdong natural science foundation only once in the same year;
(5) For Distinguished Young Scholars Fund, Please refer Annex 2 for more information on application limit.

b. Collaborative research requirements
(1) The collaborative institutions involved shall not exceed 2 in number;
(2) If main participants include researchers from other domestic institutions, applicant shall fill out relevant information on collaborative institutions in the application form. Meanwhile, a collaboration agreement which contains fund allocation, division of labor, ownership of intellectual property and other relevant contents shall be signed by bilateral principal investigators before submission(collaboration agreement isn’t enforced to upload to the application system)；
(3) For overseas participants, he or she shall upload the “Informed Consent Letter” (template can be downloaded from application system and need to be signed by applicant) to the application system;
(4) For General Program, the fund which granted by the government can be allocated to Hong Kong or Macao institutions once the project is approved.

c. Other requirements
(1) The project start time in the application form should be 1 January, 2021.
(2) If the research content involves research ethics or science security, compliance documents shall be provided as attachments.
(3) Any requirements of relevant scientific research reviews, please refer to the CUHKSZ’s research review process of each committee as attached (Annex 4) and send the required materials and forms to each committee’s email for assessment.

(4) Applicants shall first read guide (Annex 1 to 3) carefully to make full sense of requirements.

4. Procedure of application
Applicants shall fill out application forms in Chinese and upload supplementary documents(please refer Annex 3-attachments list) online via the application system ( http://pro.gdstc.gd.gov.cn/ ) which will open on Aug. 12, 2020, without submitting any hard copies.
※ For applicants who have no login ID for application system, please send your name, academic title, email address, telephone number to kevingao@cuhk.edu.cn by Aug. 13, 2020 to open account.

5.Deadline
a. Applicants shall upload relevant attachments and submit application forms online by 18:00 on Aug. 24, 2020, the RAO will review and feedback(For General Program, the university will organize experts to review and only recommended projects can be allowed to submit);
b. Applicants shall submit application forms (final version) online by 18:00 on Aug. 30, 2020, without submitting any hard copies.
