The NSFC has initiated a special fund application which was titled as “Response, governance and impact on the outbreak of COVID-19 and other public health emergencies”.  Details of application requirements are as follows:

1. Funding fields

1. Response and management on prevention of major communicable diseases
2. Governance mechanisms on major public health emergencies
3. Economic impact on major public health emergencies
4. Social administration on major public health emergencies

2. Eligibility of applicants and funding amount

A. Applicants shall meet the following qualifications:

 (1) With the experience of undertaking basic research projects;

  (2) Have senior academic title.

B. In-site post-doctoral researchers are not eligible to apply for this program.

C. The duration of this program is 1 year(the start time should be April 15, 2020 and finish time should be April 14, 2021) and the average funding intensity is about five hundred thousand yuan to eight hundred thousand yuan per project(the NSFC may provide sustainable funding for PI if outstanding results has been achieved during the period of study).

3. Procedure of application

    Online application

Applicants shall fill out application forms online via the application system (https://isisn.nsfc.gov.cn/) . When filling in the application form, applicants should follow: for “application code 1”, select“G04”; for “funding category”, select“专项项目”; for “subclass introduction”,select “研究项目”; for “annotation”, select “科学部综合研究项目”.

    Paperless submission

In process of the submission, applicants shall only submit the online application and the attachments, without having to submit a hard copy.

4. Other requirements

A. Application limit

• This special fund shall not be subject to the total number limit ;
• Applicants shall only apply (as applicant and main participant) for one project concurrently which the research content should be chosen from those 18 titles of the themes;
• For Special Fund for research project, applicants shall only apply for one project in the same year.

B. The number of collaborative institutions for every project should not exceed 2;

C. Applicants shall first read NSFC Guide to Programs 2020, especially the general requirements for Department of Management Sciences（http://www.nsfc.gov.cn/publish/portal0/xmzn/2020/01/07/）.

D. Applicants shall fill in the application form in line with the outline of “专项项目-研究项目申请书撰写提纲”. Meanwhile, project titles must be consistent with those 18 research contents which were listed in the guide(please refer Annex 1-Guide).

E. Applicants are encouraged to conduct collaborative research with researchers from ministry of health, economic and social authorities, departments for disease control and hospitals.

5. Deadline

Applicants should upload attachments and submit online application forms by March 12, 2020. After submission, the RAO will conduct formal examination and feedback. Applicants shall submit the revisory (if any) application forms online by March 16, 2020, without having to submit a hard copy.

Delayed application will not be accepted.
